political advantage over the obama administration, over hillary clinton in particular over the attack in benghazi, what ended up looming unexpectedly large over these proceedings was how benghazi is not an unprecedented thing. the state department has had its personnel and its facilities in danger and facing different kinds of attack over and over and over and over again for decades all over the world. and the attempted political acrimony of today's hearing ended up kind of dead-ending today whenever secretary clinton would bring back what congress does not see as a priority does not see the safety that work at the state department and the resources to ensure that safety. and yes, there is a political agenda to be driven, always, always. but in terms of steps necessary to protect people, so far hillary clinton made the case today that congress has been against it, specifically right now, members of the republican-controlled house have been against it. >> we have asked the congress to help us real locate funds. the senate has given us that authority. we don't yet have it from the house

connell. >> some have said it was it was indelicate of me to suggest that our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny president obama a second term. but the fact is, if our primary legislative goals are to repeal and replace the health spending bill, to end the bailouts, cut spending and shrink the size and scope of government, the only way to do all of those things is to put someone in the white house who won't veto any of these things. >> after that, democrats worried republicans were trying to annihilate the democratic party, in part by trying to destroy unions, the most vivid example of that, wisconsin. the republican governor successfully pushed a bill that stripped collective bargaining rights for most public unions. ohio and michigan followed scott walker's lead with mixed success. and now it seems the tables have turned. now if you believe boehner, the democrats want to annihilate the gop. so the talkback question for you, do you agree with boehner? will obama try to annihilate the republican party? facebook.com/carolcnn, or tweet me @carolcnn. i'll be right back.

: scott, mary jo white's closest friends say she dislikes washington and disdains office politics and bureaucracy. they say her dream job would be commissioner of major league baseball or f.b.i. director. she was considered for that latter post before president obama picked white, one of this generation's best prosecutors, to police wall street. the first woman u.s. attorney for the southern district of new york, white led prosecution teams that convicted mob boss john gotti, a vicious mob killer who had escaped prosecution by tampering with juries. white kept her jury anonymous and sequestered. she built the best set of terrorism prosecutors in america, convicting the blind sheik for conspiracy to bomb the united nations and other new york landmarks. she also convicted ramsey youseff for the 1993 world trade center bombing. and she was on osama bin laden's trail before anyone, indicting the al qaeda leader for the deaths of 18 u.s. soldiers in somalia in 1993, charges that later included the 1998 bombings of u.s. embassie embassies in kenya and tanzania. >> so i'd say that's a pr

big ideas. that's where ali sat down with eric kantor to discuss washington's next big political battle budget. >> when you look at the options out there, president obama's budget proposal and paul ryan's offer, they both don't do what guys say need to be done. now you have a proposal that said you will balance the budget in years. i asked paul ryan this and i can't get an answer. how? it's going to hurt. >> there new base lines in the budget. as we know, some of the difficulty and the differences in washington were centered around the method of accounting whether it's static or dynamic. when you raise taxes, that $650 billion of additional tacks that went in because of the cliff deal, that adjusts the base line. that is going to make the numbers look differently. right? we will have to make choices. no question about it. we have committed to putting a budget out there that will bring it to balance within years. >> the fact is nobody seems to want to own up to a budget that will hurt. >> the ryan budget, the last didn't balance in almost 30 years. the way we were trying to move s
